Monsanto Fund Awards $200,000 Grant For Jefferson Farm & Gardens
Thomas Jefferson Agricultural Institute
June 14, 2007

COLUMBIA, Mo. (June 14, 2007) – The Thomas Jefferson Agricultural Institute is pleased to announce its receipt of a $200,000 grant from the Monsanto Fund. This award will be used toward the cost of construction of the Plant Science Teaching Greenhouse at Jefferson Farm & Gardens, a new educational farm under development in Columbia, Mo. To date, the Institute has invested over $1 million in developing the farm and visitor attractions, which will provide educational opportunities on agriculture, horticulture and conservation for the general public.

The teaching greenhouse will enable youth and adults alike to work with a variety of plants at different growth stages. It will be attached to the Visitor Education Complex to facilitate year-round, hands-on learning.

“We greatly appreciate Monsanto Fund’s generosity toward the Jefferson Farm & Gardens project,” said Rob Myers, executive director of the Jefferson Institute. “This grant will be a significant boost towards completing this new public education facility.”

The Jefferson Institute is a nonprofit organization based in Missouri that conducts agricultural education and research projects. For more information on Jefferson Farm & Gardens, visit www.jeffersonfarm.org.
