"The greatest service which can be rendered any country is the introduction of a new plant into its [agri]culture."
—Thomas Jefferson, circa 1800
Thomas Jefferson understood the significance of our intrinsic connection to the land. At Monticello he cultivated hundreds of varieties of fruits, vegetables, flowers and crops -- some from other parts of the world -- and kept extensive notes on his progress. In honor of his efforts to diversify and strengthen agriculture and horticulture, the Thomas Jefferson Agricultural Institute was established in 1997 to provide education, research and market development programs in support of family farms.
Just as Mr. Jefferson was impassioned about his personal mission over 200 years ago, your interest and financial assistance is vital today. Your support can make a real difference in bringing Jefferson Farm & Gardens to life. This beautiful new 67-acre facility will provide both information and inspiration on current food, farming and gardening topics and will be an enjoyable place for all ages to visit and learn.
Financial support from individuals, foundations and companies is integral to the success and growth of the Jefferson Farm & Gardens, which is a special project of the Jefferson Institute. The Jefferson Institute is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization so your gifts are tax-deductible to the extent allowable by law.
How Can I Help the Jefferson Farm & Gardens Take Root?
Your gifts now will provide much-needed funding as the many educational attractions of the Jefferson Farm & Gardens are being developed. Your support will enable us to develop a unique educational environment for people of all ages where they will explore contemporary Midwestern food, farming and gardening. With your help, this hands-on learning opportunity will serve children, youth groups, farmers, landowners, gardeners, and conservation & outdoor enthusiasts. Gifts of any size are needed and greatly appreciated!
